All Union Apartments Locks at a Glance
The Union Apartments will stop your run dead if you enter without knowing what to look for. Three locks, four scattered tokens, and a hidden clue painted over on a bedroom wall stand between you and the fourth floor. None of the combinations change between saves, so the table below works in every playthrough.
| Lock | Answer | Where the Clue Hides |
|---|---|---|
| Supervisor side door | 1C, 3A, 2A, 3C | Four newspaper clippings matched to tenant documents in their apartments |
| Basement storage gate | 1525 | Painted over on the bedroom wall in Apartment 1C |
| Basement stairwell keypad | 54399 | Not required — the Utility Room route bypasses it entirely |
The stairwell keypad is the only one you can skip. The other two must be solved to progress.

Entering the Building and Collecting All Four Laundry Tokens
The inner lobby door will not open on its own. You have to cut the intercom signal before the buzzer works. The moment you step inside, look left for the Utility Room Key in the wall box, then grab the Union Apartment Building Map from the right wall. Leave the building, descend the exterior stairs on the right side, and use the key to unlock the Utility Room.
Inside, turn on your flashlight and walk left to the intercom panel. Switch it off. Head back to the main entrance and use the lobby intercom to call Alice Baker in Apartment 4B. The conversation is short, and the inner door on your right clicks open once it ends. If the intercom says the line is busy, you have not switched off the Utility Room panel yet.
You cannot reach the third floor without the Union Level 3 Key, and that key sits inside the basement washing machine. The machine only runs once you feed it all four Laundry Tokens — described in-game as "plastic tokens for operating a communal washing machine" — scattered across the building.
| Token | Location | Extra Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Supervisor's apartment (1A), on top of the cabinet | First floor, safe to grab immediately |
| 2 | Second-floor hallway, on a laundry pile past Apartment 2B | Defeat the spitting enemy near the gate first |
| 3 | Basement Storage Units, inside a bag in the second storage unit | Past the gate in the storage corridor |
| 4 | Basement Laundry Room, far-left back section, inside a bag | Walk past the hanging clothes to the rear wall |
With all four in your inventory, return to the front area of the Laundry Room and feed the tokens into the machine. Open the door and collect the Union Level 3 Key. Take it to the stairwell and unlock the door to floor three. The second-floor hallway enemy spits poison through the gate, so deal with it before standing near the token pickup for too long.
Solving the Supervisor Door Code
The side door in the Supervisor's apartment uses apartment numbers rather than digits — this is the central Silver Pines union building code puzzle, and it is entirely logic-based. No single note hands you the answer. Instead, four newspaper clippings on the notice board outside the locked door each describe a former tenant, and documents inside the tenants' own apartments confirm which unit each one lived in.
| Clipping Subject | Apartment | Document Found There |
|---|---|---|
| The artist | 1C | Gallery pamphlet on the table |
| The cat owner | 3A | Birthday card referencing the cat |
| The writer | 2A | Typewriter page |
| The stalker victim | 3C | Water-damaged diary |
Read the clippings from left to right as they appear on the board, then enter the matching apartment numbers in the same order: 1C → 3A → 2A → 3C.
Inside the private room you will find the Floor 4 Button, the 1911 Service Pistol, and a small amount of cash. The Floor 4 Button matters most — carry it straight to the hallway elevator and install it in the panel. Without it, the lift has no fourth-floor stop and the top of the building stays out of reach.

Uncovering the Basement Storage Code
The basement storage gate takes a four-digit number, 1525, but the number is hidden under thick paint on the bedroom wall of Apartment 1C. To see it, you have to craft a working Paint Solvent from two ingredients found elsewhere in the building. Follow these steps in order:
- Go to Apartment 2B on the second floor. Pick up the empty bottles from the kitchen floor and use the Alcohol Still on the chair to fill one bottle with Alcohol.
- Head up to Apartment 3C on the third floor. Smash the bathroom mirror with your crowbar, crawl through into Apartment 3B, and exit to the hallway.
- Unlock the hallway gate, walk through Apartment 3A, and step out onto the broken exterior balcony.
- Drop down from that balcony onto the second-floor balcony below to enter Apartment 2A from the outside. Pick up the Dried Up Paint Solvent from the kitchen floor.
- Open your inventory and combine the Dried Up Paint Solvent with the Bottle of Alcohol to create usable Paint Solvent.
- Return to the first floor, enter Apartment 1C, and apply the solvent to the painted bedroom wall. The code 1525 appears.
- Go to the basement Storage Units and punch 1525 into the first gate. Grab the gasoline and empty bottle from the table inside — together they craft a Molotov Cocktail.
The Apartment 2A detour via the third-floor balcony drop is the only way in before the hallway gate is cleared. You cannot enter 2A directly from the second-floor corridor at this stage.
Keys, Items, and Reaching the Roof
Every key-like object in the building and where to collect it:
| Item | Where to Find It | What It Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Utility Room Key | Wall box at the lobby entrance | Utility Room door outside the building |
| Union Level 3 Key | Inside the washing machine after all four tokens | Stairwell door to the third floor |
| Floor 4 Button | Supervisor side room behind the 1C-3A-2A-3C lock | Fourth-floor stop on the elevator |
| Apartment 4B Key | Rooftop, near the large sign letters | Apartment 4B on the fourth floor |
Once the elevator reaches the fourth floor, find the room marked with a phone sign and climb the interior roof stairs. Walk left across the rooftop to the large sign letters and examine the diary page on the ground nearby — the Apartment 4B Key is with it.
The building spans six levels: a basement, four numbered floors, and the roof. The stairwell is the only vertical link to floor three, which is why the Level 3 Key is mandatory rather than optional.
FAQ
What is the Silver Pines union building code for the supervisor door? The answer is 1C, 3A, 2A, 3C, entered left to right to match the order of the newspaper clippings. It does not change between saves. The silver pines union building code is based on deduction, not a note that hands you digits directly.
What is the basement storage code? 1525. You reveal it by combining Dried Up Paint Solvent from Apartment 2A with Alcohol from the still in Apartment 2B, then using the resulting Paint Solvent on the painted wall in Apartment 1C's bedroom.
How do I get the Union Level 3 Key? Collect all four Laundry Tokens — one in the Supervisor's apartment on the first floor, one in the second-floor hallway, and two in the basement — then insert them into the washing machine in the basement Laundry Room. Open the machine door once it runs to collect the key.
I cannot enter Apartment 2A from the hallway. What am I missing? The second-floor hallway gate blocks direct access early on. Go to the third floor instead, pass through Apartments 3C and 3B, walk through 3A, step onto the broken exterior balcony, and drop down to the second-floor balcony below.
What else is inside the Supervisor's private room besides the Floor 4 Button? The 1911 Service Pistol and some cash. The pistol is a solid sidearm upgrade for the floors ahead. Install the Floor 4 Button in the elevator panel immediately after leaving the room.
